As part of the international cooperation project Deralok Hydropower Plant Construction Project, we provided our consultancy as experts in the architectural heritage preservation field. The assignment involved the securing and conservation of the archaeological remains of an ancient multi-span stone bridge, located in a peripheral region of Iraq, on the border with Turkey.
We mainly worked on the thematic mappings – identification of the materials and forms of alteration and decay – and the drafting of the project documents, i.e. the project table with the identification of the interventions and the Technical Specifications. It was an interesting opportunity to think over the topic of the conservation of archaeological remains, dealing with conditions and working possibilities very distant from the usual ones.
